What is Memono?
An inventory of everything you own. Make a box for a room, a shelf, a drawer, or an actual cardboard box, and photograph what goes in it. Each thing is cut out of its photo and dropped into the box as a clean cutout, so a box looks like the pile of things it actually holds.
Does anything leave my phone?
Only if you send it. There is no account, no analytics, and no third-party SDK, and nothing is uploaded on its own. The cutting out, the guess at what a thing is, and the search that finds it again all run on the phone. Two things you ask for do use the network: handing an item to someone as a link, and iCloud sync, which is off until you turn it on and goes to your iCloud rather than to us. What do I need to run it?
An iPhone or iPad on iOS 18 or later. The cutting out runs on the device's own neural hardware, so recent iPhones do it best. Scanning a room needs the lidar sensor, which means a Pro; nothing else in the app depends on it.
What does it cost?
Three boxes and thirty things are free. Past that it is one purchase, once, which lifts both ceilings on every iPhone and iPad you sign in to. No subscription.
How does the cutting out work?
Memono uses Apple's on-device subject lifting, the same machinery behind touching and holding a subject in Photos. The photo goes in, the thing comes back out with its background removed, and a paper edge is drawn around it so it reads as a die-cut sticker.
Do I have to type anything?
Rarely. The app works out what a thing is and which category it belongs to, and reads any words printed on the thing itself, so search usually finds things you never described. It also recognises a thing it has seen before, so photographing something twice gets you a word about the one you already own and where it lives.
What is the room map?
Scan a room and Memono keeps it as a small three-dimensional plan you can turn in your hand. Stand your boxes on the furniture they actually sit on, and then a cupboard can be tapped to see what is inside it, or an item asked where it lives. Scanning uses the lidar sensor, which is a Pro thing. Without one the rest of the app is unaffected.
Can I give something to someone?
Yes, as a file over AirDrop, or as a link. It arrives on their phone as the same cutout, with its name and category. A link is encrypted before it leaves, the thing stays yours until they collect it, and you can take it back at any point before they do.
Is any of it backed up?
Only if you ask. iCloud sync is off until you switch it on in Settings, and it puts a copy in your own private iCloud so your things survive a lost phone. It never goes anywhere we can see.
What languages does it speak?
English, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Arabic, and Russian, following whatever the phone is set to. Or a language you pick for the app alone.
When can I get it?
Memono is coming to the App Store. This page will carry the link the day it is out.
